He’s right, and as you say, children need rewilding. Kids need a bit more encouragement to go out and discover the world – get their fingers dirty. Do they still make mud pies?
There is a brief item in the back of the August 2009 issue of British Wildlife about a survey carried out amongst visitors to Travelodge hotels. Over half the 3000 people surveyed think that the countryside is boring because there is nothing to do or see. 83% couldn’t identify a common bluebell, 22% could not identify a hare, ONE in TEN adults could NOT identify a SHEEP!!!
With the sensationalist wildlife programs now appearing, I wonder if they would be able to identify anything other than a crocodile or similar “aggressive” animal.
