We’re back. NB

Apologies if I am repeating what Paul said and for a same day posting – but we’ve got some catching up to do!

Hello. I’m sorry we’ve been gone for a long time. The company that hosts the site had problems with its server and I didn’t kick up enough of a fuss soon enough. Mea culpa.

The good thing is that we’ve had a chance to reflect on the blog and what it’s doing, what it’s about. And that is going to bring about some changes. Since you take the trouble to read our posts, you are welcome, encouraged to write and tell us what YOU think would widen its appeal – and keep you coming back.

It has been a productive spell the last while with, amongst other things, an assignment for 2020VISION in Coigach. For the first time in ages I went out to take some traditional pictures of landscapes, something I had forgotten was technically very easy on a digital camera.  I was left wondering why so many professional photographers seem to believe that they can still get away with shooting pictures that good recreational photographers can also shoot. Few picture users can distinguish. I distinguished some of the work I made there by the additional of words within the picture: it’s a way of giving context that I really like. And distinctiveness.

That last paragraph is important for when you get the files back and into Lightroom you can do things with the ND filters that were very hard, nigh on impossible with film.

With film one always mentally left space just in case of a cover shot: that is you compose the way you want and then shift down to get more sky… and the result was in the lap of the gods (or the bin of the designer…). This way you can put the words you want to a composition made to measure.

I say this with audible laughter: don’t you know that designers really don’t have the say with what goes or stays in regards to layout (leave that to the geniuses with Marketing degrees and rods up their a*$(#*. We lowly Mac Monkeys simply do as told lest our cubicle gets moved to the boiler room. ;-)

It is great to be back and I’m looking forward to hearing from readers {PLEASE SAY HELLO DEAR READERS!} and using this opportunity to rethink things a bit.

    Clay
