Not that we are really interested in technical things. Much.

    Dear Paul,

Sorry to trouble you again, but I have managed to get a Baker microscope from Ebay, and hope my friend can adapt it so that it ends up like the one you show on p.143 of “Close-up and Macro photography” (Your Mark III version optical bench).

My question again regards the way in which the bellows are fixed to the microscope: did you drill a hole through the microscope and use a screw to secure it in the way you described for the aluminium bar optical bench? I wanted to make sure before we started, since the microscope I bought is made of steel.

By the way brilliant blog site.

    Best wishes,

    Hello Peter,

First thanks for your kind comments on the blog. On my ‘macroscope’ I used the rack and pinion that came on the main tube. But that meant that I disabled the fine focus. I would not do this again. I think that retaining the fine focus might well be a very good thing to do if you were going to use Helicon or similar software for composites because you can do this in fine steps and get superb results. Could you take a couple of pics of the Baker model you have – particularly round the back so I can see the tube and focusing mechanism? I have restored instruments over the years (working in a school with minimal science budget it saved a few pennies!) – send them to paulhd@tele2.it as an attachment and I’ll get back to you.

    best regards

    Paul
